Explore the Giant Swing and Wat Suthat

Overview

The Giant Swing and Wat Suthat are situated in the main commercial hub of Bangkok. These landmarks offer cultural and historical experience. Tourists will have a unique experience to travel  around like a local.

What is so special about these two landmarks?

The Giant Swing is also known as Sao Chingcha which is around 21.15 meters tall. It is a red structure built in 1784, during the reign of King Rama I. This structure was used during ceremonies, mainly used in the annual Brahmin which is known as Tri-yampawai in Thai language. This is a unique ceremony in which the participant will have to swing high to grab a bag of coins. The meaning behind this ceremony is that it symbolizes fruitful harvesting of rice. However, this ceremony conducted on the swing was discontinued in 1930, for safety purposes, but this giant red structure is still there which tourists can see.

Situated close to the Giant Swing is Wat Suthat which is one of the oldest temples in Bangkok. The architectural design of the temple is impressive with board roof, bronze Buddha statue Phra Sri Sakayamuni which is 8 meters tall and stunning paintings. Visiting the temple will let you experience the old charm of Bangkok and have a serene and peaceful time to yourself. You can offer your prayers in the traditional Thai culture, which will be a unique experience.
