Explore the Chiang Dao Cave

Overview

Chiang Dao Cave is a natural wonder located in the northern part of Thailand in Chiang Dao district. The cave are perched in between the Doi Chiang Dao Mountain and is one of the famous tourist attraction site for its spectacular cave system comprising of stalagmites, limestone formations, unique rock cuts, stalactites and also believed to be a religious site.

Tourists can explore the caves, what’s interesting is that the caves are spread across several kilometers, however for the safety of the tourists only a part of the cave is opened to explore. To venture deeper into the caves, it is only allowed with the help of experienced tour guides who knows the caves well, and are aware of each of the cave sections.

What are the highlights of Chiang Dao Cave?

  • The Chiang Dao Cave is popular for its stalagmites, limestone formations, unique rock cuts, stalactites, which makes it one of the must-visit destination and activity to indulge in Chiang Mai. This unique shape of the limestone is caused by water, thousands of years ago.  
  • The cave comprised of Buddha statues and small shrines, which makes it an important spiritual place as well, locals visit to offer their prayers to the lord. It is one of the serene and peaceful places to engage in prayers and meditation.
  • There are many small underground lakes in the cave, which adds to the fascination and mystery of the place, waiting to be explored.
  • To explore deeper inside the caves you will have to take a guide, as that part is darken and you have to take lanterns to explore. If you are exploring alone it is better to walk around the part where there is light, rest part is better to take an experienced guide.

How to Reach Chiang Dao Cave?

  • By Taxi: Tourists can reach Chiang Dao Cave from Chiang Mai by taking a Taxi or Motorbike which is around 70 km away, located in northern part of Chiang Mai and will have to take the Route 107.  
  • By Bus: Tourists can also opt for a local bus ride to Chiang Dao from Chiang Mai. Once you reach Chiang Dao, you will have to take a taxi or tuk-tuk ride to reach the base of the cave.  
  • By tour package: Otherwise tourist can opt for half day trip package, from Chiang Mai, which will include pick and drop and a guide.
